Recent concern about falling birthrates has led to considerable discussion about the family-unfriendliness of most American neighborhoods. Proposed solutions as simple as adding sidewalks to local streets could make it easier for children to play and walk freely and safely near their homes, reducing parental stress.

No chance of that happening according to a new report from the UK’s National Literacy Trust showing that, of 76,000 British schoolchildren surveyed, only a third said they enjoyed reading for pleasure, the lowest figure since such polls began in 2005.

Parents, politicians, health professionals, and theologians are now grappling with how, when, and if children and teens should be allowed any social media access, as blame for the teen mental health crisis has been laid squarely at the feet of many social media platforms.

While parents and other citizens are rightly concerned with the curricula in schools and the books in their libraries, another threat to parental rights and the wellbeing of minors exists in “school-based health centers.” The Daily Signal highlights an issue with one such proposal in Maine, where a high school would operate a center that could give out abortifacient birth control. The Maine School Administrative District 11 would “provide confidential ‘mental health, reproductive health, and substance use’ care to minors who ‘demonstrate decision-making capacity,’” according to The Daily Signal.
