While euthanasia is immoral and should be outlawed in all cases, a fact affirmed by the Catholic Church, when MAiD was first introduced in 2016, it was initially only available to those who were terminally ill, and those killing the patients had to follow a series of steps before administering the lethal drugs. Later, in 2021, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government expanded the deadly practice to be available to those who are not at risk of death but who suffer solely from chronic illness.

Pro-choice author Magda Denes, Ph.D., interviewed abortionists and clinic workers for her book In Necessity and Sorrow, Life and Death Inside an Abortion Hospital. Surprisingly, many of the abortionists she interviewed admitted that they were terminating life. Some even used the term “murder.”

In a recent session from the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, part of the United Nations’ Human Rights Committee, numerous countries were criticized for having high rates of abortion for children diagnosed prenatally with Down syndrome. Numerous countries were singled out, and the report was surprising to many, given the United Nations’ staunch abortion advocacy.

After spending $100,000 on their first child, killed by an abortion, conceived via surrogate, the Rangerses—who had made a small fortune in real estate before retiring to the Caribbean in their early forties—commissioned a second and third child for a total of $300,000. Given the price they paid, it is hardly surprising that the couple would want to ensure they receive products of the highest quality. The story of their first surrogate child’s short life is one of injustice and commodification that reveals the fertility industry’s profound ableism.
