Senate Will Vote on Key Pro-Life Bill to Protect Babies From Infanticide

The U.S. Senate plans to vote on a bill to assure unborn babies who are born during botched abortions receive potentially lifesaving medical care. “As thousands of pro-life Americans come to Washington for the 52nd Annual March for Life, we’ll take up the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act,” announced Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) during a floor speech on Wednesday. “This vote will ask Democrats to answer whether a living baby born after an attempted abortion should be provided with medical care or be left to die. Why pro-lifers are ‘thrilled’ by NM Supreme Court’s ruling against ‘Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn’

The New Mexico Supreme Court has ruled against Lea and Roosevelt counties and the cities of Clovis and Hobbs, claiming their passage of pro-life ‘Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn‘ ordinances “exceeded their authority by enacting ordinances preempted by state law.”

However, despite the apparent loss, the decision has “thrilled” legal representatives of the Cities and Counties who passed the pro-life measures, as well as pro-life activists who supported the ordinances. Why? Because the ruling acknowledged the validity of the federal Comstock Act, which prohibits the mailing of abortion-inducing drugs and other devices.

Pro-life groups are criticizing a burgeoning effort to expand use of the abortion pill through pharmacist prescriptions, slamming what one advocate called an effort at “chipping away at medical standards for women.” A pilot program launched this month in Washington state has trained pharmacists to prescribe the abortion-drug combo mifepristone and misoprostol to women seeking abortions.
