The American Alliance for Equal Rights, led by conservative legal activist Edward Blum, alleges that McDonald’s has been unlawfully discriminating against high school students from other ethnic groups through the decades-old scholarship program. “So non-Hispanics — including non-Hispanic students with severe financial need and racial minorities like blacks, Arabs, and Native Americans — are flatly barred based on their ethnic heritage,” reads the lawsuit filed in Nashville, where the International Scholarship and Tuition Services is operating the program. “This kind of discrimination was never lawful.” The suit requests a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction that bars McDonald’s from closing the application window or selecting this year’s winners.

The district’s 17-page document outlined its various commitments, listing its top goal for its workforce as “increas[ing] our teachers of color to 40% by 2025 and achiev[ing] a goal of 45% teachers of color by 2030.”

Private school choice advocates expect that 2025 will be the year that they finally bring the last big red state, Texas, into the fold. The likely victory would, in turn, pose the next big challenge for the controversial movement: Can it win in enemy territory — that is, blue states — too?

Nelsi Pelinku, an Austrian teacher whose parents immigrated from Albania, told LifeSiteNews that he was fired from his teaching job in a public school in the federal state of Salzburg in August 2023 after the school found out that he attended several rallies between 2019 and 2022, including the pro-family March for the Family, protests against the draconian COVID-related measures, and anti-mass-migration rallies. The events in question all took place before Pelinku was a teacher at the school.
